NTT Data Business Brains - Nippon Sheet Glass

NTT Data Business Brains (NDB) develops custom software and web applications for many of the largest companies in Japan. Much of NDB's work focuses on systems management, though it does quite a bit of customer-facing application development as well. A project NDB carried out drew on both of these strengths.

One of the world's top providers of specialized glass products, Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd (NSG) offers a wide array of glass products for residential and commercial buildings, glass for automobiles, optical components, LCD devices and hundreds of other applications. With its enormous catalog of offerings, NSG has long faced difficult challenges in presenting accurate, timely information on products and pricing to its equally large and diverse customer base.

Why Curl?

A key goal for NDB in building the development solution was to provide end-users with the same user experience - or better - than they had become accustomed to with their original application. This meant that smooth performance, a feature-rich interface, and the ability of the system to handle extremely complex quote entry operations were all paramount. Developers at NDB considered Internet application platforms built with standard Web technologies, but in the end decided that Curl would be the ideal development platform. Curl is uniquely suited for building enterprise-scale solutions that combine powerful features previously only possible in client/server solutions, yet with all the convenience and benefits of web-based access.

The Curl Solution:

  • Provides the flexibility and low cost of web-based functionality with a very rich interface and the power of a client-server system
  • Enables users to print or preview in various paper sizes with elastic technology
  • Eliminates workload in deployment and upgrading, while drastically reducing the cost of ongoing management
